The Gutenberg Museum of the future

The Gutenberg Museum is one of the oldest museums in the world devoted to the history of books, printing and writing. Each year over 120,000 guests from all corners of the globe come to visit the world museum of the art of printing. Like many cultural institutions the Gutenberg Museum has been suffering from a lack of public funding for many decades now.

The content and structure of the museum need to be completely changed to turn it into a modern, contemporary museum. The financial means provided by the city of Mainz as the current funder of the museum and by the Gutenberg Foundation are not sufficient.

The Gutenberg Foundation has made it its aim to make a considerable contribution to the funding of the new Gutenberg Museum with the help of endowments, donations and sponsorships.

The Gutenberg Museum of the future is to be realised on the basis of the new museum concept and the result of the 2015/2016 European architectural competition.
