After a long time we met again for printing: Members of the Gutenberg Society, volunteers of the Gutenberg Shop and the Print Shop, students of book studies and GUTE FREUNDE came together on 7 April under the motto "A scent of spring and printing ink is in the air" in Gutenberg's workshop in the lulu Mainz.
Our event season had already started the week before with the Friends of Gutenberg – Jour Fixe at the Kulturei, with a lecture on historical inscriptions by Dr. Eberhard Nikitsch and a wine tasting by the Rettig Winery from Westhofen. It was a special event to meet the Gutenbergers live again.
The reunion continued at the Easter printing and printing took place: In addition to Easter motifs from the Gutenberg Museum's print shop, a special highlight was an introduction to the technique of natural self-printing by Dolores Schabio, artist and employee of the Gutenberg Museum's print shop. Under her guidance, prints were produced that captured the structure of plants in all their filigree beauty. There have never been such enchanting Easter cards! Our heartfelt thanks for this go to Dolores Schabio and the Gutenberg Museum.
For the next two weeks, from 11 to 23 April, the opportunity to print your own cards is open to all: The volunteer printers in Gutenberg's workshop in the lulu await visitors daily from 12 to 4 pm for Easter holiday printing. A visit to the workshop is possible spontaneously and without prior appointment, as a short break or a crowning conclusion to a stroll through the city.
If you get a taste for printing and would like to do more, you should visit the Print Shop of the Gutenberg Museum, where Easter printing is also on offer. The Print Shop offers visitors a large, perfectly equipped workshop and a whole range of wonderful printing blocks (book by calling 06131-122686).
Gutenberg's workshop is used by the Gutenberg Museum's sponsoring organisations, the Gutenberg Foundation and the International Gutenberg Society, to promote Johannes Gutenberg, the "Man of the Millennium" and greatest son of the city of Mainz, and the Gutenberg Museum. A donation for the Gutenberg Museum is requested for the printing.
Would you like to join us for our next event? We will meet again on 28 April at the Kulturei for the Friends of Gutenberg – Jour Fixe with a lecture and wine tasting and look forward to seeing you there. More information about this and the upcoming joint events of the Gutenberg Foundation and the Gutenberg Society can be found here.
