On 24 May 2022, the new director Dr Ulf Sölter and curator Dr Anett Göthe will welcome GOOD FRIENDS of the Gutenberg Circle of Friends and members of the Gutenberg Society to a special evening at the Gutenberg Museum.
Dr Sölter will introduce himself and guide us through the newly extended special exhibition "Road to Nowhere". The solo exhibition shows a representative cross-section of the work of Tobias Gellscheid, the city printer from Mainz who was in office from 2018 to 2019. Born in Pößneck in 1983, Gellscheid learned the craft of wood sculpture in Flensburg and worked as a freelance wood sculptor and later as a restorer until his studies at the Burg Giebrichstein Art Academy in Halle (Saale). In 2015, he graduated from the Burg with a degree in graphic design from Prof. Thomas Rug. A virtuoso printmaker, his work focuses on pop culture as a phenomenon of post-war Western societies, concentrating on its most original presence in the 1950s and 1960s. Woodcut, linocut and wood engraving are his preferred technical media.
As a special extra, following the guided tour by Dr. Sölter, we will be given a brief preview of the special exhibition on 75 Years of Rhineland-Palatinate by Dr. Göthe planned for autumn.
