Topic: #Süttember – Autumn of the Handwriting
Speakers: Dr. Hans-Dieter Bottke and Rigo Neumann from the Verein Deutsche Sprache e.V. (German Language Association).
"Sütterlin im September", or Süttember for short, is a digital campaign month of the Verein Deutsche Sprache e.V. (VDS). Many people still know Sütterlin as the handwriting of their grandparents and great-grandparents, from family documents or postcards. It is one of the "black letters" that exist both printed (Gothic type) and written. The best known of all the writing schools is Sütterlin.
With "Süttember", the VDS and its partners are not concerned with reviving Sütterlin as an everyday traffic script, but rather with preventing the loss of a cultural technique that has evolved over centuries. In a discussion with the Gutenberg Society, Dr. Hans-Dieter Bottke and Rigo Neumann from the VDS will introduce the campaign month and explain the background. Guests will also have the opportunity to try their hand at reading and writing Sütterlin.
The lecture will be followed by a wine tasting with wines from VDP winery Bischel from Appenheim.
