Longdrink-Evening

The student event series "Longdrinks" is going into the next round. On Thursday, 11 November 2021, we will once again discuss an exciting topic in a relaxed discussion round at 6 pm in the 3SEIN.

Topic: Gender marketing - outdated methodology or magnet of a pink and blue world?

From Princess Lillifee to pirate stories, from a dream in pink to an exciting "boys' story" - gender is an important topic these days. It is about distancing oneself from typical role models, getting away from colour-specific concepts and allowing childhood to unfold freely. However, this does not apply everywhere in the children's and youth book market. There, rather, there is a clear marketing through character marketing in pink and blue colouring and specific stories for boys and girls, such as the Three ??? and the Three !!!. How do Lillifee and Co. relate to today's modernised world? They usually include a large variety of products that is not only limited to books but also extends to the entire children's room. Where does this success of such exaggerated marketing come from? Should gender marketing disappear altogether or is it part of the children's and youth book market?

We would like to discuss these exciting questions with you and also look at possibilities for the future of children's and young people's book marketing.

The event will be moderated by Gutenberg Society interns Julia Reber and Lisa Albers. We look forward to an exciting exchange with you.
